Re: Skateboard Committee Survey
The Skateboard Committee has completed its review of the On-Campus Skateboard Safety survey conducted last Fall. The survey provided critical information about how people move around the campus and identified target areas for improving safe travel. Thank you to everyone who participated in the random and open survey. A summary report of the survey’s findings is available at:
http://www.vcadmin.ucsb.edu/skateboard.html
As a result of the survey, the Skateboard Committee has implemented the following:
- Increased signage around campus to improve awareness of campus regulations and safety for pedestrians, skateboarders and bicyclists.
- Continued support of the Police Department’s new bike and skateboard enforcement team targeting high traffic areas identified in the survey.
- Co-sponsorship with Associated Students of a Skateboard Awareness Week, April 27 - May 1, 2009, to increase safety awareness on campus.
The Skateboard Committee will continue to evaluate the impact of these actions along with consideration of other proposals, including a pilot project to install a skateboard lane along the southern edge of the main east-west sidewalk from HSSB to the Library.
All of these efforts are intended to find alternative solutions for improving safe travel on campus. We appreciate your cooperation.
